Life is Better Barefoot

"It feels so good!"

Life is better barefoot

Also called “grounding”, the simple act of walking barefoot offers many benefits that get overlooked by society telling us we “need to wear our shoes.” Now, in 2019 we are losing touch with mother nature.

life is better barefoot

Children are playing inside; children are riding virtual spaceships instead of riding their bikes, they’re climbing levels in candy crush instead of climbing trees, and the feeling of grass between their toes is an experience their missing out on.
Being barefoot has many benefits; we need to encourage our children to take off their shoes and explore!

Some benefits include:

  •  Improve your immune system
    •  Walking barefoot can decrease white blood cell count and increase red blood cell count, indicating a positive immune response.
  • Improve your sleep
    • Stabilize circadian rhythms
  • Regulates your nervous system reducing anxiety and stress
    • To help regulate emotions and balance the nervous system, let your body meet the soil directly
  • Increase your muscle strength, awareness and balance
    • Help align the toes & strengthen the weaker muscles of the feet and ankle

How to encourage more barefoot time

  • Start inside
    • Use a familiar space
      • Moving around your house- Carpet to hardwood
      • Playing on your bed
      • In his/her crib
  •  Explore “feet play”
    • Utilize your feet for a sensory experience
      • Water
        • Different temperature
        •  Bubbles
        • Foam
        •  Ice
  • Slowly explore outside
    • Add one new activity each week- try gardening, walking, skipping, hiking, climbing, and sensory play without shoes. Be patient- with some exposure, the soles of their feet will build up a thicker callous of skin, and their confidence, curiosity and happiness will increase
