Yoga for Kids!

Children's Yoga

More and more kids in the U.S. are practicing yoga each year. In a 2017 study, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that more than 8 percent of 4- to 17-year-olds had practiced yoga in the past year — up from 3 percent five years earlier. As young children encounter emotional, social, and physical challenges, a yoga practice that includes physical exercises or postures (to build flexibility and strength) and breathing (to calm and refresh the body and mind) can be a helpful tool to positively impact their growth and well-being. Yoga helps kids to:

  • Develop body awareness
  • Improve balance and coordination….and sleep!
  • Develop focus and concentration
  • Boost self-esteem and confidence
  • Promote stress management
  • Build positive peer and social interaction
  • Spark creativity and expression

Yoga postures are fun for kids to learn because many poses are inspired by animals (Cobra! Cat! Dog!) and nature (Lotus flower! Tree!). Going to the beach this summer? Here is a sequence of beach-inspired poses:
