Hood College Lab School Campus
Georgetown Hill’s Hood College Lab School is operated jointly by the college’s Department of Education and Georgetown Hill. Established in 1929 by Onica Prall, a Hood College professor, the Lab School serves children and families in Frederick, as well as parents who are employed by Hood College. We offer both full- and part-time programs for Twos through Pre-Kindergartners. The play-based P.L.A.N. curriculum at Hood utilizes evidence-based approaches to early childhood education that spark the natural learner in every child.
Campus Highlights
The campus includes three spacious classrooms designed to support play and learning and two engaging outdoor play spaces.
The Lab School serves as a field placement site for Hood students pursuing teacher certification in early childhood education.
We participate in several annual events in the community including the Kris Kringle Parade and a Family Night at the Frederick Keys stadium.

Campus Director
Meet Shalom Kester
Ms. Shalom has been with Georgetown Hill since April 2006, in roles ranging from assistant teacher to lead teacher to director, at the NRC, Apple Ridge, and Clarksburg campuses. Her BA is in Elementary Education with a focus on Special Education and Psychology, supplemented later with additional coursework in Early Childhood Education. She loves conversations with kiddos, incorporating ideas from brain-based research into our programs, and enhancing the historical beauty of the original 1909 schoolhouse that is our Clarksburg campus.
